Colorado Peaches Set Sights on Medal, But Have Already Won at Empowerment and Camaraderie

Forget fall colors, Colorado Peaches are set to peak this month! As The Denver North Star goes to press, 4 teams (50’s, 60’s, 65’s and 70’s) from the Colorado Peaches Senior Women’s Softball organization are competing in the Huntsman Senior World Games in St. George, Utah. The Peaches were founded in 1991 and welcome players ages 50 and up. Currently, their “ripest peach” is 90 years young.
The Denver North Star recently caught the 60’s, 65’s, and 70/75’s at their last practice before heading to the tournament. They had just received word that their 50’s team, already in St. George, had won its morning game. General Manager Sandy Crane wrapped up practice with words of encouragement, “Now you must know, the 70’s and 75’s, you’re the backbone. You’ve been here the longest. We have higher expectations for you. But, we love you no matter what happens!”
Construction Begins on New Protected Bike Lane

Construction has begun on upgrading the West 23rd Avenue/Water Street bike lane to a protected bike lane. Sketches for bike lane markings started to show up on the pavement the first week of October. The new bike lanes will be striped next, and vertical posts will be installed later this month according to the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) on Twitter. DOTI is installing this bike lane to increase safety and comfort for people that bike from the west to downtown, furthering the city’s goals towards eliminating traffic deaths by 2030 and mitigating climate change. This will be North Denver’s first ever protected bike lane and will go all the way from Federal Boulevard down to the South Platte Trail near the REI Flagship Store. The new protected bike lane design is intended to enable the 59% of Denverites that would like to bike more but want safer bike lanes before doing so. According to data from Strava, 23rd Avenue is the most popular east/west bike route in this part of the city. It serves as the only bike lane that crosses I-25 in North Denver.
