The 8th annual Jeremy Bitner Memorial Run

The annual Jeremy Bitner Memorial Run is held in honor of Englewood Police Detective Jeremy Bitner. Detective Bitner lost his life in the line of duty on May 28, 2012 after being struck and killed by a drunk driver while performing a traffic stop.

Jeremy served the Englewood Police Department for 8 years, and during the time he was assigned to patrol, he was a SWAT team member and a Field Training Officer. He loved being a police officer and serving his community. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many. Proceeds raised from The Jeremy Bitner Fallen Memorial 5K/10K Run benefit the Fallen Officer Fund, to assist the families of fallen law enforcement officers in the State of Colorado.

Shareholder Nick Fogel, of Denver-based law firm Burg Simpson, is a founding board member of the Jeremy Bitner Fallen Officer Fund. The Fund was created in honor of Detective Bitner and provides assistance to the families of fallen officers. Since its inception the Fund has provided assistance to families of the last 16 law enforcement members killed in the line of duty.

This year, the Bitner Fund has approved a donation to the family of El Paso County Deputy Jeff Hopkins. Officer Hopkins lost his life in April of 2020 due to complications related to COVID-19, which he contracted in the line of duty.
