LWV: Racist Roots of our Tax Policies

The events of the past year have led many of us to try to understand more clearly the ways systematic racism has affected our culture and our policies. On Tuesday, March 16, the League of Women Voters of Denver will offer a look into the history of tax policy in the U.S. and particularly in Colorado and how many of those policies have been shaped by racist influences. The briefing, open to all, will be on Zoom at 5:30 p.m.

Carol Hedges, executive director of the Colorado Fiscal Institute, will present this history and an overview of who pays taxes by race. Carol spent her early career working in government policy in Kansas, D.C., and then Colorado. She then worked for the Bell Policy Center and Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute before co-founding Colorado Fiscal Institute with Kathy White in 2005.
