Federal Boulevard District Highlights 25th And Federal
Note: The date of the block party has been changed to July 22.
Ten years ago, the Better Block Jefferson Park event took place on June 23, 2012. The event was part of the Better Block Project that focused on the improvement of pedestrian and public infrastructures on West 25th Avenue between Federal Boulevard and Eliot Street.
Today, the Federal Boulevard Business Improvement District is partnering with Denver Street Partnership, a coalition of community organizers, to continue those efforts.
While the Federal Boulevard District focuses on helping businesses in need, the Denver Street Partnership aims to connect residents and decision makers, ensuring the safety of our communities.
Together, the two organizations will host a block party on July 22 highlighting the changes that will turn a portion of West 25th Avenue into a shared street for pedestrians and events.
“We’re going to show where we were in 2012, and we’re going to show where we are now, 10 years later in 2022,” said Leslie Twarogowski, the president of the Federal Boulevard Business Improvement District (BID).
The department of transportation will be present to discuss new and exciting changes to West25th Avenue.
“It’s kind of a past, present, and future of this block,” Twarogowski said.
The event will help advocate for Native business owners and feature local food trucks and venues, according to the Federal BID.
Chicano band Lost Mocochetes will play their usual upbeat songs with a variety of instruments and socially empowered lyrics.
Muralist Anthony Garcia, who previously painted the street mural “Immortal Compass “in 2015, is painting a new mural on West 25thand Eliot Street, which will serve as the dancefloor for Los Mocochetes and guests.
Garcia is the founder and director of Birdseed Collective, a nonprofit organization that supports young artists.
