Welcome From Our Newest Columnist

Hello members of the Northwest Denver Community from your Denver Police District 1 Police Station.

Thank you for reading The Denver North Star paper and enjoying all the great features and articles.

I am excited as I have been offered the opportunity to share information and crime prevention tips with the community we serve on a regular basis. As everyone is aware, our community is dealing with the COVID-19 crisis and the impact that it has on all our lives and activities.   Please keep an eye out for each other and take the time to realize what is really important in life. My hope is that this passes and we get back to some type of normalcy soon. DPD District 1 is still responding to citizen calls and all emergencies, though the process may be different on some non-emergency calls. We are dedicated to our community and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these times.

Going forward DPD District 1 wants to share current information monthly that may be happening in your neighborhoods along with any crime prevention tips that may be useful.

This month, I want to let you know that Commander Jeff Martinez has taken a new position with DPD as the Commander of Homeland Security for the Denver Police Department. This position is of the utmost importance with what is going on in the world.  Commander Martinez expresses his gratefulness and thanks to the community for their support during his time in District 1. DPD is in very good hands with acting Commander Layla DeStaffany who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her position. Many of you already know her as she has been involved in multiple events, meetings and activities with the community during her time here in District 1. Please join me in welcoming acting Commander DeStaffany to her new position.

DPD District 1 is grateful for all our community members and partners and are honored to serve you and yours in the community we all love.   Until next month, be safe and healthy.
